Key combinations
Within VRchat there are key combinations you can press in cases of emercency or for other events. Within this guide we will explain what each key combination is, when to use it and how to undo its effects.
Panic button
When the panic button is activated, it will trigger a costum shield level safety preset with everything disabled. This results in all users who are not your friends having their sounds muted and avatars replaced with default floating gray character. You will also get a pop up making it clear you triggered the panic button, what it does and how to undo it.
Because of this the panic buton can be used for moment when a user is trying to grief a lobby by playing annoying audio or using a world wide shader. This system isnt meant against particle crashers, for a system against that check the 'GUIDES -> Particle Limiter' tab on the left.
Desktop: both Shift keys AND ESC key
Rift: both triggers OR both grips, AND both menu buttons (B/Y)
Vive: both triggers OR both grips, AND both menu buttons
Windows Mixed Reality and other VR controllers: both triggers OR both grips, AND both menu buttons
X-Box Controller: both triggers AND back AND menu buttons
Once panic mode is enable, you must manually select your original safety setting or click on the 'Reset custom setting' for it to end.
Switch to default avatar
When the key combination for the default avatar is activated your own local avatar will change into the default robot avatar. This can be usefull for when you are unable to acess your menu or because a bug makes you unable to move with your current avatar.
Desktop: both Ctrl and \
There is no key combination to trigger this while in VR. This means you will need to use a keyboard while in VR to activate it.
To undo the change of the default robot you can just change into a new avatar again. There is no extra toggle or menu option you have you undo.
Toggle nameplates
When the button combination to toggle nameplates is pressed the nameplates above all users will vanish. This will result in the game having less to rendered what will result in a performance boost. The more users are in a room the bigger the performance change will be.
Desktop: both Ctrl and N
You are able to trigger this combination while in VR by using a keyboard or follow the following steps to toggle with help from the ingame menu.
Open the VRchat menu.
Click on UI Elements (This can be found in the lower left corner of the menu).
Click on the toggle button for the nameplates.
To enable the nameplates again you use the same button combination or follow the steps to enable it manually within the menu!
Toggles visibility of the HUD
When the button combination to toggle nameplates is pressed the microphone icon and notification icons will vanish. This can be great for when you want to record your perspective or dislike the icons. Unlike with the nameplates you will not get a noticable performance boost from toggling it.
